EJ Jones, award-winning professional piper, performer, recording artist and smallpipe maker will be in Denver on Feb 25 to conduct an all day workshop as an Introduction to Scottish Smallpipes.  The general public is invited and a special invitation is extended to highland pipers.  EJ will discuss the following topics: History of the alternative pipes, differences in construction, bellows-blown pipes technique, differences in playing styles between alternative and highland pipes, playing with other instruments, how to form your own Celtic music group.  In addition, EJ will introduce a few tunes that highlight the expression and musicality of the smallpipes.  If you have alternative pipes of any kind…. smallpipes, border pipes, kitchen pipes, parlour pipes, or a practice chanter……bring them to the workshop!  If you just want to observe and learn, please feel free to join us.

This event will be held at the Lakewood United Church of Christ at 100 Carr St. Lakewood, CO, from 9 am – 4 pm.  The fee is $25 for the day.  Please contact Ken McIntosh at kenmcintosh@idcomm.com or 303 234.0469 for registration form and payment information.

Following the workshop, the Piper Jones Band will perform in concert the evening of Feb 25th at the Englewood Civic Center (Hampden Hall) located at 1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO, starting at 7 pm.  The Piper Jones Band features EJ Jones on pipes (highland and others), Frances Cunningham on bouzouki, and Wolf Loescher on percussion.  Piper Jones Band is centered around beautifully and energetically played bagpipes accompanied by the percussive chords of the bouzouki and drum. In addition to original instrumentals and traditional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, and Appalachia, the group sings powerful harmonies and can lead the audience in traditional Celtic dances.  Tickets will be for sale at the door, beginning at 6 pm.  For more info, contact Jim Conley atjmconley52@hotmail.com or 719 695.2108.
